Captain Paul Chappell – 08/19/12

Capt. Paul K. Chappell  is a West Point graduate, a soldier, a philosopher and a victim of war’s collateral damage.

He is also The Peace Leadership Director of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation and the author of three books on ending war, Chappell presents compelling evidence that: human beings are not naturally violent,  War is not inevitable and that War does not make us safe.

As a multiracial child growing up in Alabama, Chappell was often the target of his father’s post-combat rage and paranoia. Nevertheless the young Chappell chose to pursue a military career, graduating from West Point in 2002 and serving in Iraq as an army captain in 2006.

Yet even as he volunteered for Iraq, Chappell was starting to doubt that war was ever going to bring peace—in the Middle East, or anywhere else. A year later, while still an active-duty officer, he published his first book, Will War Ever End? A Soldier’s Vision for Peace in the twenty-first Century.

He went on to write The End of War: How Waging Peace Can Save Humanity, Our Planet, and Our Future and Peaceful Revolution, released in February 2012. They have earned the Independent Publishers’ Outstanding Book of the Year Award, His books have been praised by Archbishop Desmond Tutu & Howard Zinn.
